mini lst servo response

In response to oldfart.... replying to the post failed so I started a new one....

We have three mini LSTs.  Tried keeping one with the dual servo, but if we didn't break the servo gears (easily replaceable) we would smoke the servo electronics.  We just gave up on the dual servo and went with the exotek LXT chassis kit.  http://www.exotekracing.com/EXOTEK_NEWS … RSION.html
They sell them for $69.99 in their online store.  The exotek kit uses a single 10th scale servo which is not included.  They suggest using expensive low profile servos but we went with a Hitec HS625MG for $32.99 (locally) and it works great.  The only drawback to the LXT kit is that they started making the steering cranks out of nylon on the newer kits.  Not a problem indoors, but we broke a set outdoors.  If you go for an exotek mod, purchase a spare set or two of the steering cranks too.
This isn't the only weak link on the mini LST.  The stock center diffs are horrible.  We have been using ball diffs with some success, but they still wear out too quickly.  We locked the center diff on one truck and found it to be more fun outside...it will wheelie now.  The stock slipper clutch is pretty useless.  If you set it up to slip, it heats up and then melts between the friction plates.  If it goes on too long, you'll find the spur gear no longer runs concentric to the shaft...so the pinion gear fits tight on one side and too loose on the other.  We tighten it up so it hardly slips, if at all.  For use outside, the axles are weak.  We replaced them with the optional CVDs which are tougher, but we still break them, just not as much.  I have heard of many folks having problems with front and rear diffs, but we haven't been having any problems with the stock mini LST2 diffs. (we run LiPos and 13.5 turn Novak brushless)
I have an all aluminum/graphite truck I would part with for $300.  (no radio or motor)  I could be persuaded to part with one of the less modified trucks (Exotek LXT kit, center ball diff, CVDs, Novak Brushless).
If you are interested drop me a personal message with your email in it and I'll send some pics.

Cheers,
Greg
